Pigs deserve to live

“Please don’t kill me.”

What’s for dinner, Hon?

Healthy young pigs are being shot in the head by American farmers at the rate of 700,000 a week.

The animals are being “euthanized” with guns and ammo provided by the U.S. Department of Agricultureas as meat processing plants cut back or shut down due to the coronavirus.

Most of the animals are being killed at farms, but 13,000 a day are being euthanized at a pork plant in Worthington, Minnesota.

Hey, here’s an idea. Don’t kill them at all. Let them live.

NO PORK CHOPS FOR ME, HON!

President Trump used his executive power under the Defense Production Act to order large meat processing plants to remain open.

But Wisconsin farmer Howard Roth, president of the National Pork Producers Council, said farmers will need to keep euthanizing pigs as the slaughterhouses struggle to resume production.

Shoot them in the head, kill them in the slaughterhouse, you may ask, what the hell difference does it make?

There is a subtlety of difference, but I don’t have a strong enough argument to make it stick, so let me just say, Don’t kill animals at all. Let them live. Eat something else.

How about Portobello pot roast? Delicious with a red wine.
