SMALL INDIE FILM HOPES TO MAKE IT BIG
WATCHER is a 2022 psychological thriller from a small independent production company starring little known actors that aims for Hitchcockian horror impact.
A young American woman moves with her husband to an apartment in Bucharest, Romania. A man keeps watching her from the apartment building across the street. She’s got a feeling he’s a serial killer who has been going around the city chopping women’s heads off.
Her own pretty head belongs to American actress Maika Monroe, (last seen, or not, in the black comedy Villains), who stars with fellow American Karl Glusman (previously in pornographic drama Love,* The Neon Demon) and Nocturnal Animals); also starring, British actor/musician Burn Gorman.
The movie was written by Zack Ford and directed by fledgling American horror film maker Chloe Okuno, who directed the short film Slut (2014), which won several awards, including the Jury Prize for Best Short Film at the Las Vegas International Film Festival.
Watcher was released on June 3 by indie’s IFC Midnight. Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 82 percent rating.
*Love, erotic drama written and directed by Gaspar Noé, released in 2015 in 3D, known for its unsimulated sex scenes.
