Queen Elizabeth’s personal piper, who played for her every morning, played a final lament in St. George’s Chapel.
As the Queen’s coffin was lowered into the royal vault beneath the chapel, Pipe Major Paul Burns played a lament in a doorway.
He then very slowly walked down the hallway with his music following behind him. When he reached the end of the hallway, the music faded away — and he vanished. It was the most poignant and moving moment in a day filled with high emotion.
