Just to have you back again

Susan Brown 1948-2018

Tribute to my wife who died four days before last Christmas. Susan loved opera and especially this aria from Puccini’s Turandot, ‘Nessun Dorma.‘

At the end of the aria, when Pavarotti holds that last high note of “Vincero!” (I will win!), tears came to her eyes and her spirit appeared to soar.

And I reach out to it now, wherever it is.

  1. A beautiful tribute to Susan, Bill. I am reminded of this blessing: “Do not stand at my grave and weep. I am not there I cannot sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow I am the diamond glints of snow. I am the sunlight on ripened green I am the gentle Autumn’s rain. Do not stand at my grave and cry. I am not there I did not die.”

  2. Thanks Steve, I love that blessing… “I am not there I did not die.” — “Nessun dorma” being Italian for “Let no one sleep.”

  3. Your tribute to Susan…what can I say, it is beautiful…the best Christmas gift you could give her!!! Her soul must be soaring higher than ever.

My Christmas wish for you is that today – and forever – you feel the love she had for you, too.

    -For Susan and Bill-
    Once bonded heart-to-heart, soul-to-soul
    You do not part
    For what God joins together
    Stays together forever
May Susan rest in peace…and may you be at peace knowing death has no power over the love you and Susan shared.

Have a Merry Christmas, my friend…that’s what Susan would want you to do.

  4. Thank you, Renata, from my heart, I carry your Christmas wish with me today — and especially this thought, “death has no power over the love we shared…

  5. Rachel, in reply to your later message which I can no longer find: No, not really — ētahi kīanga from when I lived there, he maha nga tau i mua.
