Does anyone care?
During the media hysteria on the anniversary of the January 6 Capitol riot there was little or no mention of the killing of an unarmed protester named Ashli Babbitt.
The 35-year-old U.S. Air Force veteran was shot while attempting to climb through a shattered window of a barricaded door in the U.S. Capitol building. It was the only shooting death that day.
She was killed by Capitol Police officer Michael Byrd. An investigation into the shooting by his own department ruled it a justifiable homicide and Byrd was not disciplined. He was hailed as the victim and called a hero in liberal circles. He even described himself as a hero by “saving countless lives” that day.
Justice seekers asked why the shooting was necessary at all. There were uniformed officers on the same side of the door as Ashli Babbit who took no action while rioters smashed the glass in the door.
Even as she was hoisted up to climb through the window, the officers on her side of the door did not try to stop her. On Byrd’s side of the door, several officers were guarding the entrance, but only Byrd fired his weapon.
After Babbitt was shot and her mortally wounded body fell back onto the floor, several more officers on her side of the door ran up the stairs. There was plenty of law enforcement if the rioters posed a mortal threat to U.S. representatives.
Byrd, 53, was not an exemplary officer. He was once investigated for leaving his department-issued Glock-22 weapon, which fires .40-caliber rounds, unattended in a restroom in the U.S. Capitol building.
Ashli Babbitt served in the U.S. Air Force from 2004 until 2010, and then in the Air National Guard. She defended her country in Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait, and Qatar.
Yet she was vilified and her death swept aside because she was a Trump supporter. That’s a capital offense in liberal America.
According to the Democrat media, Trump caused the assault on the Capitol. So who cares about Ashli Babbitt?
As obnoxious a Trump supporter as the biased media portray Ashli Babbitt, she was a patriot, a dirty word these days.
ASHLI BABBITT SHOT DOWN (watch for the person with the white-striped backpack at 0.42 in the clip)
The moment Ashli Babbitt was about to leap through the broken window of the door she was not a threat to the cops on the other side. She had no weapon and in fact she hadn’t even yet jumped through the window. But Byrd fired anyway, basically at an image in the busted window.
Ashli Babbitt was a protestor who took part in the riot, which was a crime, but there would have been another way to subdue her once she had landed on the other side of the door.
Most of the coverage of the five fatalities is about Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick who died the next day as a result of a series of strokes, ruled a natural cause.
The other three deaths were ruled accidental or (like Sicknick) from natural causes. Rosanne Boyland, 34, died of an amphetamine overdose and being trampled by other rioters after collapsing; Kevin Greeson, 55, and Benjamin Philips, 50, died naturally from heart attacks.
The only shooting that day was the killing of unarmed Ashli Babbitt, and that has been buried under the ever mounting avalanche of anti-Trump hatred.
