BACK IN A NEW MOVIE

Sophia Loren is back!

TEN-YEAR ABSENCE ENDS

The movie star returns to the screen in a new Italian film, ‘The Life Ahead,’ which premieres November 13 in select theaters and on Netflix.

Now 86, she plays a Holocaust survivor who becomes a maternal figure for an orphaned Senegalese street kid after he steals her purse. The two lonely people develop a kinship that changes both their lives.

The movie, based on a novel by Romain Gary and co-written and directed by Sophia Loren’s son Edoardo Ponti, marks her return to acting after a ten-year absense.

Sophia Loren began her career in 1950 and is the highest ranked living actress on the American Film Institute’s list of ‘Greatest Female Stars of Classic Hollywood.’

She won an Academy Award for Best Actress in the 1961 movie ‘Two Women,’ directed by Vittorio De Sica, about a mother trying to protect her 12-year-old daughter in war-ravaged Italy.

The actress didn’t attend the Academy Awards ceremony because of her fear of fainting. An old flame, Cary Grant, phoned her in Rome to tell her she had won.

In addition to the Oscar, Sophia Loren’s performance earned her 22 international awards, including the Cannes Film Festival’s best performance prize.

THE LIFE AHEAD

”It’s precisely when you give up hope that good things happen.”
