The line at the local gun shop gets longer every day
The sound of gunfire from the shooting range a mile from my house is strangely comforting. It gives me a sense of security. I feel safe in my home. I don’t know any of my neighbors, since I’m practically a hermit, but at least I know they have guns and would come to my protection if I’m ever attacked by home invaders.
When I hear the gunshots and rifle fire from the range I sometimes think I’d like to go there for some companionship but my retiree’s pension couldn’t handle the $100-an-hour fee for non-members. And to become a member would take too long — there’s a waiting list a mile long. Also, you have to be sponsored by a current member, and as I said, I don’t know anyone in the neighborhood.
Every time I drive by the Guns & Ammo shop near the house the line of people queuing up to buy guns gets longer. And the pop-pop-pop from the range is becoming more frequent, especially on Sundays — “Family Days.”
Living in fear of the Left
Second Amendment advocates live in fear that the left wing segment of the government — starting with the president and vice-president no less — will take away their guns.
Currently there are an estimated 55 million gun owners in the nation, with 5 million new, first-time gun owners so far this year alone.
A few years ago I lived in New Hampshire, where the state motto is Live Free or Die. A manly creed for sure. Many gun owners think that should be the pledge of freedom for the whole country against politicians and governments.
More and more women carry guns
But guns are a different and deadly matter, opponents say. Not in America. That’s what the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is all about — to protect yourself, your family and your home.
The argument goes that if the government takes away legally owned guns, the guys who want to rob you and shoot you will still have their guns. Whatever side of the gun debate you’re on, the politicians who want to confiscate the guns make sure they have their own armed guards to protect themselves. The hypocrisy is obvious. They’re okay, they’re safe, so what do they care about the unprotected common man — and woman?
So American men and women look after themselves — they carry weapons, and they’re lovin’ it.
I don’t like weapons.

It is better to not like guns but be familiar with them than to not know them and fear them. Be careful of them but maybe keep one for protection.
Good advice, and it sums up my feelings about guns.
