DIEGO MARADONA’S MEDICAL STAFF CHARGED
Members of the medical team who attended Argentinian football hero Diego Maradona after his heart surgery in November 2020 have been charged with criminal negligence.
The soccer legend died at the age of 60 in the recovery room after undergoing surgery.
Eight doctors and nurses were responsible for Maradona’s round-the-clock care during the time he was recovering from surgery.
They face up to 25 years in prison. A trial date has yet to be set.
A medical board investigating Maradona’s death concluded that his medical staff acted in an “inappropriate, deficient, and reckless manner.”

Among those charged are Maradona’s neurosurgeon and personal doctor, Leopoldo Luque, psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov, psychologist Carlos Diaz, two other doctors, two nurses, and their boss. They have all denied responsibility for his death.
Mario Baudry, a lawyer for one of Maradona’s sons, said the World Cup winner was “in a situation of helplessness” at the time of his death.
“As soon as I saw the cause, I said it was homicide.”
